All Aboard....

The big day is finally here....Penny and I are at sea on our first cruise. We left the Seattle port yesterday around 4:30pm and headed out Puget Sound headed for our first stop, Juneau, tomorrow around 12 noon.
Today was the first day of our D.I.A. conference and I was lucky enough to be selected to give my talk on the first day. I gave a 45 minute talk on astrophotography and was able to share lots of pics I've taken over the last 20 or so years. Everyone really seemed to enjoy the class and had lots of great questions.
Now that I've given my talk I can just sit back and relax the rest of the week. Public speaking is not my favorite thing.....

The ship is really great. We are onboard the Holland America cruise ship Zaandam. I checked out the gym yesterday and plan on hitting it later this afternoon. Gotta keep up with the exercise routine considering all the eating we are doing onboard.
Well...internet ain't cheap on the ship so I'm going to cut this short and just post a couple pics from the trip so far. We are really looking forward to the whale watching excursion tomorrow and if we are luck I'll have some great shots to share in a day or so.

Day One: Alaska Cruise

Day one of our trip to Alaska went great. Left Vegas this morning around 9am, Alaska Airlines, to Seattle. Great flight with no problems on the ground or in the air. We arrived in Seattle and it looked like it had just stopped raining (big surprise - it rains in Seattle). We made it to our hotel for the night and dropped off the luggage and immediately headed downtown to the Pike Place Market.
We had two goals for our brief stay in Seattle - 1. Pike Place Market and watch the guys toss the fish and 2. - the Seattle underground tour. I'm happy to say we are 2 for 2 so far.
Here's a quick clip of the famous fish tossing in the market.

Our second goal was to do the Seattle Underground Tour. Mission accomplished. I must say it's a 'must do" for anyone visiting Seattle. Amazing history and the tour guides are really funny.
It's dark and dank <- is that a word?... underground but amazing to see what's below your feet as you walk the sidewalks above. I'm glad I had my Canon 5D Mark II because I forgot the flash and it was very dark down there. No problem....crank it up to ISO 6400 and fire away....

Here's a shot of our tour guide, Forest, explaining why the underground even exists...

More pics and a HighDef version of the fish toss will be coming after we return home and have a better internet connection....

All packed and ready to go....

OK, now I'm finally getting excited. Up until now it's just seemed like more of a hassle then a vacation but now that all the packing is done, boarding passes printed, batteries charged.... I'm finally starting to get excited about the cruise to Alaska.

I'm not sure if we will have internet along the way but if we do I plan on updating the blog here with pics from the trip so stay tuned.

That's me...struggling to hold up the camera with that massive 300mm lens I rented just for the cruise. This lens is sooooo sweet, it makes me tingle all over. Is that normal?
